Do I have to withdraw from this slowly if I have only taken it for six days? I take .25 in morning and .25 at night. How can I do this? Can I just stop since I have only taken it 6 days? Please help? If not, how do I taper it off?

Klonopin, unlike Xanax or Ativan, has a fairly long half life, which means that it much easier for your body to adjust to the absence of the drug when usage stops. You have nothing to worry about...Klonopin, like all benzos can become very addictive, but not in 6 days and not in such small doses. I took klonopin for panic attacks for periods extending beyond 6 months for several years. I was taking .5 mg twice daily and tapered successfully severals times with no negative effects. You on the other hand will not need to systematically reduce your dose in such a short period of usage. Relax and stop completely. If you begin to experience any negative effects ( and I am quite confident that you will not), just tough it out for 24 hours. If that does not work, reduce your dose to .12mg for a week to 10 days and then stop. You are taking such a small dose of the medication that any severed withdrawls from it would be very, very unlikely...relax.

Are you suffering side effects from the medication? Usually that is why someone wants to stop but I thought I would ask anyway.

First you should let your health care provider know that for whatever reason you have decided that you want to discontinue using this medication.

The doctor can give you the proper instructions as to how you can taper off the medication safely. Everyone is different so every body will react differently to withdrawing from medication. I can tell you that you should never let someone on this website tell you how to taper off your meds. It can be dangerous if you are on a higher dosage and you take the wrong advice.

I know because I tried to get myself off of an antidepressant medication after having had all kinds of problems on it and having my doctor quit because she gave up. I wound up having Grand Mal seizures and I still get them sporadically. I am very limited now because of them and I live in a state of constant fear knowing I am susceptible to them at any time...

Be careful and be smart about your meds...always read potential side effects and listen to your body...

Good luck!

Klonopin is also used as an anti-convulsive.Six days shouldn't affect you,but to be on the safe side cut the dosage in half and taper off gradually.Klonopin is known for causing seizures when stopping abruptly.

I agree with the others, you should have no problem stopping it after such a short time. If by any chance you do, then go down to one a day for a day or two and then stop, but I really don't think that it will be necessary.

No. You'll be fine. But before stopping any medication, PLEASE talk to your prescribing doctor. He/she may not want you to stop it.
