Hey, Im going to Hong Kong and China too. You don't need a visa to go to HK but you can sort a visa before you go to China at your local Chinese Embassy. Mine is in Manchester and I think he said it was £80 per person to get one, they only open very short hours but do it before you travel as you could queue fot hours in HK. Maybe i could meet you there?

You don't need one for Hong Kong but you can get your China one in Hong Kong.

STA Travel should know.
Or
If you get to the embassy in Hong Kong b4 12 you can get them the next day or wait 2 days and get them cheaper.
Hotels and guest houses offer to do it at about double the cost.
But the visa building is easy to find, it's clean and if you take a book you'll be fine, we spent about 2 hours max in there.
Don't forget to take a pen, 2 photo's and a photo copy of your passport.

Check the requirements on the Chinese Embassy site:

http://www.chinese-embassy.org.uk/eng/lsyw/qzxx/default.htm

There are sites that will organise it for you (for a fee), but it's worth paying to get it sorted out.

I've been to Beijing. It's definitely worth going.

American Express offer a visa service for about £40, if you have a local branch.

As former colony of Great Britain, I don't think it's required for visa to HK. You may get your visa to China in HK long as you're not their "blacklist"!
