This is the kind of question that is easy to distinguish the liberals from the conservatives they see the glass as half empty and we see it as half full.

Yes the American dream is still kicking I immigrated here 36 years ago and all of my family have been quite successful. the formula is not complicated first you have to dream, then set goals, prepare yourself thru training or education, have positive attitude, take successful steps one step at a time.

Many citizens that were born here can not see it because of negative training but if you observe many new immigrants they see vast opportunities in the US

The American Dream as I understood it, is not a realistic goal for all. Part of the American dream was to be able to buy a home where you grew up (if you so desired), My husband and I both grew up in towns that no first time home buyer in todays world can afford. It used to be that you bought your "starter" home and gradually moved up to the home you can spend the rest of your life in. Now people get into those starter homes and find that the equity they gain is not near enough to put a dent in a more expensive home that is gaining value at the same speed, and those are the lucky ones.
One thing that I think effects this the most is the tax system. Those that make the same amount of money with the same family size in kansas are taxed the same as those in California. In Kansas that money goes a lot further. That hefty tax bill that a family of four in California gets is a large obstacle to them being able to save for a house.

Sure it is. I grew up in a poor family but, I am now pretty well off. I have a good job and through hard work and smart investing I have a net worth of about $500,000. I'm 49 years old and young people today have more opportunity than I did.Because of things like lottery scholarships most anyone can attend collage these days

The number of people that have a chance to live the "American Dream" gets smaller day by day. Until the public wakes up and stops all lobbying and corporate and church control that influences government the decline in the ability to reach the "American Dream" will continue to decrease. Churches want to control your lives through government and corporations want you to work for low wages and be beholden to them for the lives you live........as long as you cannot gain too much power. Both want it all and they don't share with the average guy.

ADD-American Dream Denied.

I'm sorry but I've been looking for a job for 7 months and its all your overqualified or underqualified. Its getting to the point in which I'm going to quit seriously. If I can't find a job at 24 how does a person find a job at 60?

I wonder if the US government gives companies a tax break just for interviewing people even if they have no plans of hiring someone from the get-go?

Such linguistic rules do no longer exist interior the French speaking section. rules are distinctive by using fact Belgium is a federal united states of america and concerns mutually with housing, custom, language training, city and united states of america making plans etc... rely on the community parliament, no longer the federal one. There are issues here of path, as everywhere, yet all in all that's a effective place the place to stay.

Gerald B stated the American Dream:

With a lot of hard work and perseverance, anything is possible.

The only reason people think they can't reach the American Dream is, they don't know what it is.

There are many recent studies that have shown that class mobility in the United States (people moving from one class to another) has slower dramatically and that it's actually easier in some other countries to attain the "dream" of moving upwards in class.

Nope, and it never was, sorry. For a select few...white males, for instance. Now it's still a realistic goal for rich white men, and women too. For the rest of us, it's taxed to death. Thirty percent of my salary goes to taxes whereas someone in the highest salary bracket pays 1`% of taxes. There are a lot of other things that I am too tired to go into, education, poor, homeless, discrimmination, etc. No, I don't think it's a realistic goal for all.

yes it is. people dont undestand that back when getting a high school diploma was what you needed for a good job, now a bachelors is the minimum. the american dream is still attainable, you have to work hard and have motivation. educate yourself and become competitive in the workforce. you will never see the american dream if you sit there and wait for things to happen
