This guy I work with was in the Navy and lived on a boat with a bunch of dudes for a long time. He is a complete homophopic and makes it a point to make sure every knows he is not gay. I think that something happened on the boat that made him question his sexuality, what do you guys think?

The only other person that was in the Navy that works with us is always staring at him and they have a special bond, again I think he may be gay, what do you think?

It could be he's not comfortable in his own skin. People who have to constantly tell you they are not gay, may be trying to cover up some type of insecurity. It could be that being away from everyone and isolated made him look at other guys in a different light. He may feel bad for saying, "oh I'm not gay - he might have saw guys who were cool and doesn't want to offend them." Just because he now doesn't say that, doesn't necessarily mean he's gay.

Well, as an ex-navy submariner, I would have to disagree with your stereotypes. In fact, we enjoyed finding the homophobic guys that arrived so that we could play on their fears. Eventually, they became "well-adjusted" human beings or they quit. Nothing is more amusing than someone who is fearful of someone who is "different."

Anyways, it looks like you just have a poorly adjusted sailor who is finding it difficult to become a civilian. The crude humor or remarks were probably standard on his ship. Although his statements appear odd, he is just trying to fit in with the work group.

As for the other sailor, well... Anyone who has endured a military service shares a special bond with another. It is hard to explain to a civilian who has not experienced it. Just because they act differently, doesn't mean you should label them. No one is asking you to give your life for you country, perhaps you should cut the guy a break.

All men in the military are homophopic. ..they are trained to be hardcore men. I haven't met a military person yet who doesn't stand by their bullheadedness and stubborness to prove to the world that they have no weakness and no faults.
It doesn't mean he is gay..it just means you have your own fantasy of wanting him to be

I was married to one..I know.

He might be struggling with his sexuality..... but the office is not really the place to discuss it. Just keep being proffesional and don't worry about what happened on the boat.

i think that is something he will have to work out. being an outsider to this situation i do not think that you should interfere. does it really matter to you if he is gay or not? if his constant talking about it irritates you then you should tell him that you do not think that topic is appropriate and move on with your day. you do not want to be in the middle of that one.
