I never crate trained my dogs and I wont start now either because they are used to there freedom at night. But I do have a problem that my dogs will mess in the basement once or twice a week and sometimes they are good without any accidents for a week. Somebody had told me i could be my work schedual that messes them up because it is never the same a different day every week. I dont know how to stoop my dogs from messing up in the basement.????

If you don't want to crate train, then make sure the dogs are on a schedule for feeding and bathroom breaks. If the dogs eat at the same time every day, then they will poop at the same time every day. The same goes for water.

But this might not work for you, if your schedule fluctuates so much. Then, what you should do is first figure out how long after your dog eats does he need to potty. Figure out when you will be able to take them out, and feed them ___ number of hours before that time. This should work. No promises, but it worked out well for my husband and I.

As inhumane as it may feel to you, crate training is probably the best answer. Fortunately for us, dogs don't think the same way we do. They don't necessarily feel that they are being punished by being put into a crate. If your work schedule is erratic, and you are having a few accidents now, you could be faced with more accidents in the future. It is all about acceptable behavior. You obviously can't correct your dog when they eliminate inside, being that you are at work. A dog walker is also a good idea, if you can find someone that you trust to enter your home in your absence.

Your schedule might be the problem, but if you go to the store, they should have some training pads that omit some kind of odor that the dogs smell. when they sell that odor, they know that is where to go. That is how my dog was trained to go, NOT BY CRATE. We put them next to the back door so she new where she was supposed to go. eventually, she knew that she was supposed to go outside, and we took the training pads away. Never once did she have an accident. she is a bordercollie lab mix, and she is very hyper. if my dog can do it, i'm sure yours can. that will make your life somewhat easier after what they are doing.

I crate trained mine....If crates to big block off part of it...open it up as dog gets bigger...WONT MESS ...WHERE IT SLEEPS...that and I took mine out-side just about every 45 minutes to an HOUR first few weeks. Then when she took care of busness she was praised & rewarded...Then I started STRECHING THE TIME ....to 2 1/2 hours & 3 1/2...little pain in the butt...but not for long....I too work swing-shift. But my girl has NEVER MESSED ONCE IN THE HOUSE OR HER CRATE...I own a BOXER...Good Luck

the only factor you write right this is in all possibility the main to what's occurring - you're 'very pregnant'. i could advise that, as this is poohing to boot as peeing (if it replaced into in simple terms peeing, you ought to think of approximately this possibly being a UTI), he's picking up the vibes from you. you're guaranteed to be doing countless issues as we communicate, if in basic terms getting issues waiting on your new arrival. And it incredibly is astonishing how we deliver out messages, physique language, without even realising it. I advise you make certain you have become him out usually, which will have dropped off somewhat as your interest has been 'someplace else' (think of what it will be like as quickly as your toddler is right here!!) and once you won't be able to supervise what's occurring with him, the two confine him to a room the place the occasional mess does not count incredibly as lots (kitchen with the back door open possibly?) or crate him. Please do no longer shop him in a crate for long classes of time even nonetheless as canines won't be able to hold consistently (4 hours max for an person) and he's in all possibility disenchanted adequate actual now as this is, without feeling close faraway from you. Poohing is often unquestionably taken care of out as in the canines who's fed two times an afternoon, he could in basic terms ought to empty 4 situations - first factor, during the late morning, afternoon and doubtless before he is going to mattress. provided his stools are favourite. Diarrhoea is going to make him pass greater usually, for sure.

always remember dogs are perpetual 2 year olds.. so concistancy is key but instead of locking them in the basement if u have a room in ur house where they sleep at night with u (i.e. ur bedroom) lock them in there when ur at work a dog will not pee or poo where they sleep it's just an intuition thing they have.. also make sure u let them out prior to going to work...

You hit it already - Consistency.

Dogs need routine and when that routine is messed up, accidents can happen.

If you can't get routine in your schedule, the best thing to do is hire a dog-walker that could come in while you're at work and walk them and create a routine for them..

i put puppy pads down. they have an attractant in them that makes the dog know that it is where they are supposed to go to the bathroom. I have a crazy work schedule too, but my dog knows that if she can't hold it, she won't get in trouble for going on the pads

to the one who said they wont "poo or pee where they sleep" I had a few dogs that would crap in their own dog house. My neighbors dog is the same way. If they gotta go then they gotta go!
