As a relationship goes on, the two people get to know more and more about each other, both the good and the bad. Relationships are a lot of work, and a lot of compromises, to make it a lasting success. Many things contribute to a good relationship, and it's hard to keep an equal balance where both parties are happy and fulfilled. That first year is when you meet the person, and get to know them. Whatever you see in the first few months is always so wonderful, but that behavior is hard to keep up over a longer period of time. You can't hide your flaws forever, they eventually come out in the open.
The more time that passes, the harder it can seem because the romance may slow down, not because they love you less, but because life gets in the way of the passion that used to come so naturally. Work, stress, chores, and daily life take a lot out of a person, so they sometimes have less time and energy to devote to their partner.
Small things that used to be "charming" or what made the person "unique" aren't so cute anymore. What was acceptable in the beginning isn't anymore. A good partner will work on their quirks to make the other person happy, and their partner needs to learn what can be changed, and learn to live with what can't (or shouldn't) be changed.
The person expects more from their partner since they aren't trying to "hook" them anymore. Sometimes people will go that extra mile to catch a partner, but they don't keep it up once they have gotten one. A good partner will make the effort, maybe not everyday, but as often as they can to let the other know how much they mean to them. Something as simple as cooking and cleaning can be a way to show the other how much you care.
Communication is the key to any relationship. To make it work, both people have to be willing to talk and to listen. If one person isn't saying why they are happy or unhappy, then the other can't be expected to be a mind reader and adjust their behavior accordingly.
It's a long list of things, and it only gets harder as time goes by. What was hard at 1 year seems like a piece of cake after 5 years. What was hard at 5 seems like nothing after 10, and so on.

Because you're becoming closer and closer- meaning you're becoming more comfortable with eachother. Things you didn't used to do before (ex: peeing with door open, leaving a mess in the bedroom, etc) you are doing now. You either need to accept how your s.o. truely is, or move on! I had a tough time when the newness of my relationship wore off- but I got used to it and realized that I'm with the love of my life. It's not all so bad! Good luck!!

Its the time that the glow is gone and you do the real work of making a lasting relationship....or you don't.
That's when you have to put something into it to make it work, and too often we only want whats easy and doesn't require us to think, talk and, heaven forbid, change. If there is enough feeling there we do try and get through that time and we are stronger for it, but if there isn't quite enough feeling, we break up and move on.
