My mother in law is fixing to be 57 in March of 07 and her husband died 3 year ago as of Jan. 7th. She ad not worked previously because he had altzheimers and so she had to stay home with him. Since his death, she has gotten a job but is still barely making it. Is there any way she can get any social security from his death? Any help is appreciated!! Thanks!!

She will be entitled to a widow's benefit at age 60 based on his social security benefit. She could qualify now if she is disabled since she is over age 50.

I think she is too young but she should contact social security and find out. If nothing else she should contact them as when she reaches age 62 she can start drawing; and her rate can be based on her deceased husband's earnings. See if there is a SS office where she lives; or look up the nearest office in the phone book. You might also check online for her.

she should. have her call the Social security office.
my wife passed 3 weeks ago and I had a choice, payment over 3 years or lump sum. at your mothers age, the 3 years may be best.

It looks like she will be eligible for benefits when she turns 60. She should have gotten $250 one time death benefit, which I guess pays for a cardboard box to bury the person in :(
