France is a historical source of art and fashion.
From an American point of view, France is the nation whose aid allowed the US to win the War of Independence. France also gave us the Statue of Liberty.
From a more sceptically point of view, France' s military history has several failures that our nation came to their aid. WWI is one example. More glaring is the complete collapse of the French military in WWII. At the start of the conflict, France had Germany outnumbered in troops and had comparable technology. France's collapse is a true military disaster. What nation was in Vietnam before the US was involved? Please do not consider me against the French. This is one a very small part of the history of an interesting nation.

Being the first to declare war and the first to surrender.
There's also all that stuff about art and fashion and romance. The whole business with the French revolution and Napoleon. Also, smoking. France is the only place left where it's still cool to smoke.
