One way that they tought use at Culinary Arts School, was to add up the total cost of all the ingredients per portion to get your total food cost, and then you should probably figure that your food cost should be roughly 30 percent of the total menu cost, the rest can go towards labor and profit.

A lady at work makes outstanding cheesecakes on the side. I believe hers are 9" around, and maybe 2" tall. She charges $30 for them. Personally, I think that's a bit overpriced considering the ingredients cost probably $10 tops, but there is a lot of labor going into it. If she charged $20 (maybe more if there are some expensive specialty ingredients in them) I'd buy them more often!

I would say at least $20 each for both of them. Butter is not cheap nowadays, nor is cream cheese. I also make a great cheesecake, good enough to sell. I have been mulling over doing this also. I was thinking $20 if I can find a way to get my ingredients at a steady price all the time. Good luck to you.....

The standard for pricing food items is 3x the amount of the cost of ingredients. That will pay for packaging, your time and ingredients. But, before you plunge forward with this, you need to consider who you are going to be selling these cakes to. Every state that I know regulates the sale of food to the public. And usually require that it be prepared in a commercial kitchen so the monitoring of safe food handling can take place. It also requires a business license and tax number. If you do it for friends and family, you'll probably be okay. But,once you sell to a stranger it becomes a business.

I too sell pound cake. $18.00 for whole cake. $1.50 per slice.
On the cheesecake (because more expensive to make) charge
$22.00 per cake and $2.50 per slice. If it is as good as you say, you should have no problem selling at these prices. Good Luck, and Happy Baking
