If he were a good person and wasn't related, then yes, I would date him. I have a common last name so there are alot of them. Just get ready for alot of people to make jokes about it. BUT if both of you are ok with the idiotic remarks you will undoubtedly get then go for it. No sense in destroying a wonderful relationship just because you share a common last name. Good luck.

I'm sure there are a lot of Smith's or Jones that met each other, fell in love and were totally unrelated, since the names are so common. It would be weird to date someone with the same name but I would still do it because you know you're not related. I wouldn't want to miss out on an opportunity to date or possibly marry someone that could be my soul mate, just because you both share the same last name.

yes why not?
i myself have dated a girl who has the last name as mine.
But be sure that even though that guy is not in ur family tree, he might be a distant cousin of yours. now that wouldnt really matter, but your ancestors who were the same might have a genetic sickness. So avoid getting married :P (just joking)

Why would you let that stop you as long as you two are not related. My grandpa's sister married a guy with the same last name as hers. So what's the big deal?

If you find yourself truly so concerned about such, it couldn’t hurt to maybe do some research, no? He/She'll either be just another Smith, or unfortunately turn out to be some distant relative (If so, might as well keep it in the family, right? Haha.).
