Our system does it all the time.

This is an HMO contected with a major hospital. When I called after starting Blood pressure medicine and told them my hands were swollen ,Nurse told me over the phone I had carpal tunnel syndrome. When I called to say my husband who has a heart condition had a cough that wouldn't go away they told us they were busy. Ended up he had pneumonia. When my daughter in law called to tell them her son was sick they told her he probably had a stomach flu. The nest day they admitted him to the emergency and he lost a testicle do to a twisted testicle.

No doctor's office who is worth its melt and profession will allow a nurse or anyone to openly dianose any kind of ailment on the phone. They are not qualified. What most will do is ask you to tell them what your problem is, or ask you for symptons (i.e. headache, nausea for seven days...) Most will ask you to make the appointment and come in. Depending upon the degree of severity, you might be able to get in right away. Or, they might have the doctor call you back and speak with you personally.

No! They can't diagnose over the phone any better than we can here.

lol i'm pretty sure that they can't diagnose anything over the phone. i don't think that's even possible. they need to check your health physically so that they know that you're alright.

This is illegal. If your doctor's office is conducting business this way you need to report them.
