My partner and I have decided we'd like to leave the uk.. Like many other Brits, we're just fed up with this place and want to get away and leave it all behind.
However, we can't decide where to go..
Where should we relocate to? Not bothered about sun and sand, just somewhere with reasonable living expenses and fresh air..

I've just returned from New Zealand. It is a lot cheaper to live there, but the salaries are generally less as well. I have to say though, it has fabulous scenery and the people are exceedingly friendly. If you really are sick of the UK might I suggest that you take a gap year rather than emigrating? It gives you an opportunity to check out potential places to live and you may in fact find out that you don't really mind the UK after all.

I think you need to decide what you want to do for work first, before deciding on the place. If you take TEFL courses you could earn a lot in the far east/ Japan if you wanted to, if you wanted to continue with your current jobs then you would probably need to go where there is a need for your skills in order to get a visa and where they speak english, or a language you speak fluently. If you want to run a pub/ hotel etc then english type touristy places are a good bet. Although work is not the be all and end all, you will never be able to stay anywhere if you are unable to pay your way, so it would be a good place to start, then you can check out availabillity of employment in countries you might be interested in, some countries e.g australia are incredibly hard to get visas for unless you have a qualification and experience in skills they need.

I think you should leave to go to Portugal, fantastic place, fantastic atmosphere, such a peaceful lifestyle. If you can get a good job over there, you can buy houses in good areas of Lisbon for about 133k euros and massive houses. Most things are reasonably cheap if you work there, but if you own property here sell it and you could take a load out of a house that side. Like anywhere though fuel is expensive but public transport is cheap and reliable.

I have some friends who just bought some nice property in Varna, Bulgaria. You could also consider Ireland, Dublin is nice, so is Germany around Frankfurt or Munich, Antwerp and Oostend in Belgium is very very nice youd like it there all flat like or Amsterdam in Holland, also Lausanne/Zurich Switzerland or Vienna Austria. If you decide and want sun after all, then Cyprus looks like a good bet to me. just a few ideas! Dubai is great to live in but property there is not Cheap at all. Need at least GBP100,000 thats for a 2 bed apartment.

I think Europe isn't economic unless you went to Eastern Europe where expenses are currently low.
New Zealand is cheaper but lots of unemployment around.
Thailand is very cheap but foreigners cannot own property - however you can live very cheaply.
If you do find somewhere, please let us know.
Like you, I'm fed up of my country being 'invaded' and the incomers being treated better than the indiginous population .... Labour government ought to remember who puts the money in the country!

Don't move to California, you will be disappointed. The cost of living is high. We have smog in Southern California. There are so many people here already that the freeways are bumper to bumper most of the time.

I agree with Aziz. Dubai is the place you want to be. My dream one day is to live in Dubai - rich place, free education, free health etc

Don't go anywhere permanent without trying it first for at least a couple of months you might find you don't like living there as well and you may be stuck and we might not won't you back

Go to India and live in Bangalore or Goa.
Things are really cheap in India as compared to UK.
