If you are asking this question, you are obviously having second thoughts... Here are instances where I think it would be rude to call someone for another's number:

You never call that person for any other reason
You don't like the person you are calling to ask for the number

I also think it is really rude for someone to give out another person's number without permission.

Have you thought about trying the internet to get someone's number? There are all kinds of ways. Do you know the address or even just the street the person lives on? You can find inverse phone books on the web.

Yes. Look it up in the phone book, call 411, or use the internet (www.whitepages.com). There really isn't any need to call another person for the phone number. Plus, if you don't have the number and can't find it via one of the three sources I mentioned, the person probably doesn't WANT you to have their number.

Also, the old adage "If you have to ask..." applies here.

It depends on whom you are calling and what is your relationship with that person. now if you misplaced a number of your friend and if you called up another friend to get it, that would be fine,.However if you are calling your ex up to get a number of his/her friend ... well thats rude. Also make sure to give a good hi or a hello too and don't say specifically that you called up a person just to get someone else's number. Now that can be considered rude. Hope this clears up any doubt you have :)

That depends on whether or not the person ur calling is a good friend and the person ur calling has given u the nbr before and u lost it. But if u didn't ever get the nbr from the person u want to call then u should call information or look him up in the book cuz it would be rude to ask for someones nbr that they personally didn't give to u. They may not want u calling them, but if u got it from the book or information it is public info and the person u want to call can't complain about u getting the nbr.

Well if it's early in the morning and the person always sleeps in and you wake him or her up it is kinda rude. If the person is doing nothing then why would it be so hard for them just to say a phone number. So no it is not rude.

Only under certain circumstances. If you're calling a man you're dating to get his best friend's phone number, that could be considered rude. It would also be rude if you went about it in an abrupt way.

i dont think its rude... but at the same time you dont want to seem as if your using the person.. although i do it all the time... also it depends on how much you've spoken to that person that you are calling to ask the number from.... if you speak often to that person ... it shouldnt be a big deal... but if u never talk to that person and you only call to ask for the number it looks bad... but who really cares .... u just need a number and go on about your business...
thats just my opinion...

Depends. If you call another family member to get another family member's phone number thats fine. But i think a friend of mine's co-workers do it. Like everyone she works with has her cell number now and she gets calls from all the guys. She has me answer her phone for her now, and depending who it is, is who she'll talk to.
