Only if they're not sitting at your table. It's generally considered bad manners to lean across the row and grab someone else's fork.

I know what you're thinking "What if they have TWO forks", and yes it's still bad manners...you mustn't grab other people's forks no matter what.

The best way to deal with this situation is to discreetly motion for your waiter. Have your waiter grab the fork from the man across the row and give it to you. Later you must remember to tip the waiter extra, since he is now going to have to dodge angry fork jabs from the greedy fork hog across the way...

Of course it is, no matter if this person is your relative, or even your child. Come on: your in a public restaurant: ask for another fork!!!!

I'd suppose it depends on WHERE your dining. I mena an I-hop or Fridasy would be fine. But there are restaurants out there that render services on ONLY upscale statues. You may seem a little out of place or tacky in that scenario!

Ya, & why should u need to share a FORK?
Anyways, it only matters as much as u care.

I find that it's perfectly alright if the person is someone who is very close to you, if not better dont share.
Afraid what others might said? Why care when they are not part of your life, as long as you are comfortable with it.
Of course if talking about etiquette, it is rude to share.
Anyway it's you who decide what you want.

it may be gross and disgusting, and maybe even unsanitary, but i'd say you could share a fork once maybe even twice in one meal but anymore than that and your really stretching the cutesy ness of it into being rude. if their that hungry , order another plate!

Do you know the other person? If you do , then it is your business and others should mind their own business and not be judging you or anybody else. If it is only etiquette your worried about, check with Emily Post. As for health questions..it could be risky. To each their own.

I'd be ok doing it with my immediate family, but not with a family sitting at a nearby table.

I'm not sure why you would need to. If you're just taking a bite of their dessert or something, it's okay.
