I'm looking for a replacement to the SR Suntour FD-XR17 front derailleur.

Information about the front derailleur can be found at the following address: http://www.srsuntour-cycling.com/index.php?screen=sh.detail&tnid=67

The bike is a Schwinn 2005 Mesa, which is equipped with a 42/34/24T chain wheel, coupled with an 8-speed cassette at the rear.

Information about the bike can be found at the following address: http://www.schwinnbike.com/products/intbikes_detail.php?id=467

Would anyone be able to provide me with a choice of compatible front derailleur?

Thanks in advance.

at the very least you should get a shimano front derailleur the other brands will just brake or have unreliable gear changes

go to your local bike shop they will tell you what you need

Just about any other Suntour or Shimano front derailleur should be fine. If you can't find a similar Suntour replacement, try a Shimano Acera, or Alivio. Shimano tends to be available almost everywhere. They should be just fine and don't cost a lot. Just make sure that the frame clamp diameter is the same as the old one (there are a few sizes offered). My mountain bike has the Acera and it is a really great performer.
