Kona makes a good bike, but it could be called batman for all i care it is the parts on the bike that matter to me, kona just makes the frame the rest of the bike is what you look at when you get serious, but the the frame comes back into play because of weight. And mister Swiss, i miss the trails at grada lake, you are lucky to live so close.

I would go to your local bike shop and tell the dealer what you want and let them outfit you. They're usually very in to the sport themselves and know a lot more than us. By the way, what does the fact that you live in Australia have to do with this question? I live in Switzerland, since we're divulging.

Get a Giant. They are much better value for money and shops usually have spare parts in stock. If you get one where you can lock off the front suspension you should be able to ride it on and off road. Go to a shop and test ride one for sizes, your toes should just be touching the ground and you shouldn't be reaching too far forward.
