I have some friends coming for a meal and have run out of ideas for food. Problem is one of them doesnt eat anything with spices or garlic in it. I've gone through all of my usual recipes but want to do something a little different. Any ideas?? I'm after something simple that can ideally be left in the oven simmering until ready to serve.

simple but delicious. diced potatoes, roughly chopped onions. tomatoes whole if cherry, otherwise chopped, or drained tinned. drizzle with oil of your choice. salt and pepper. a sprinkling of herbs. two pinches of sugar.cook in a roasting tin gas 3 or equivalent for about an hour. turn up the heat for the last ten-fifteen minutes to brown. serve with any hot or cold meat of your choice. omit the herbs if your friend does'nt like them. or save them a corner with no herbs on.

We've just enjoyed turkey a la king, using left over turkey. A creamy white sauce, using egg yolks and single cream, plus aspoonful of dry sherry, with mushrooms and red and geeen pepers. Yummy !!! doesnt take very long - but not a shove in the oven and forget it recipe.
May I also suggest you invest in a good cookery book - there are loads of British recipes that don;t us spices or garlic, but good food plus herbs to have great flavour.

You can't go wrong with a good heartwarming sausage and baked bean casserole.
Peel and chop some parsnips
swede
carrotts
potatoes & Mushrooms
Add six sausages chopped and a large tin of baked beans. Add a pint of stock and place in the oven about gas 5 for around 2hrs.
Perfect. No spice, no garlic, no problem.
Serve with crusty bread or jacket potatoes.

Ive just done a basic stew, meat veggies and dumpling with nothing added no garlic, soy sauce , salt, pepper or herbs the most spiy thing was half an onion it was lovely very tasty and satisfying just like Mum used to make. I think we have become hung up on adding things i have a cupboard of herbs and spices but am beginning to think food tastes better without them

Do a turkey in the crock pot. Set it for 8 hours on low and just put a little cooking oil on it. Make sure you spray the crock pot with cooking spray, cover, and that's it. No spices or anything. Serve with whatever sides you like. The turkey tastes fantastic and is very juicy.

No spices & no garlic? At all?

Make whatever you want for everyone else, and make a bowl of hot oatmeal for the "fussy" one.

That's just bizarre!
