I don't believe they should be banned. Instead, the public should be educated on the dangers of trans fats, and restaurants should be required to post notices on what foods they serve that contain trans fat. Then, let the individual decide if they would like to consume it or not.

*Edit* - Let me decide what I want to eat instead of the government cramming it down my throat.

Banned means once again 'big brother" is treating us like idiots who can't decide for ourselves, how to take care of ourselves. Banned is on the books until there is legal action for repeal. It ties up legislatures and courts only to find out down the road that the results of the first study were paid for by some special interest group and have been negated by 20 world wide studies. Then what, to late, we've been putting up with crackers going stale in two days for nothing, but boy have the birds loved getting all those stale crackers and the companies have loved selling us fresh ones. They also enjoyed having an excuse to jack up their prices to cover the cost of shorter shelf life and more expensive ingredients.
People should have all the known information available so that they can make up their own minds. There should continue to be prosecution of false labeling and advertising.
But "big brother" is just taking advantage of a chance to show us how much they "care" about the poor ignorant gullable public. I am insulted. There are alot of things that they could be doing on the job that might be truly useful. The whole attitude of sue someone, throw a law at it, I'm to stupid and helpless to take care of myself and be responsible for my own choices,..is why tihs country is in the trouble it's in.

because it is only harmful to you if you eat too much of it; and that'd be your own fault. the joy of eating something that tastes good should not be taken away from those with self control just because those who don't have it keep stuffing themselves.

The reason that things have to be banned to keep us healthy, is because, we Americans have ROTTEN JUDGMENT. We do not have the judgment to keep ourselves healthy.

If the FDA banned it we would probably accept it.

There are NO reasons not to ban it.

Transfat was introduced into foods to prolong it's shelf life.
