A pound of cotton actually has more mass. Since the air is causing the cotton to 'float' it will weigh less than the gold. How much does a blimp weigh? When it is full of helium, nothing. Even when there are pounds of gold inside the blimp. In conclusion the weight of an object does not say anything about the mass of the object, but you did ask heavier didn't you? So a pound is a pound, all around.

They both weigh the same, however, just to be different, it is possible that the answer is gold. While cotton (and most other things) are weighed using the avoirdupois method, gold is weighed in TROY ounces. So a troy pound is in fact heavier than a pound of cotton. But we all know the real answer is neither.

Well there both the same. How? they're both 1. pound. Even tho, gold is heavier they only have 1. pound of it. But cotton is as light as a cloud, there must be alot of to make 1. pound to be the same as the gold.

a pound of gold because even though they have the same capacity it depends on what the item it.You see a pound of gold would probably weigh alot and a pound of cotton even if it has the same value as the gold it would still way less or if that isn't right then they both weigh the same

A pound of cotton.

Gold is weighed in troy pounds, and a troy pound is about .82 pounds, so the pound of cotton is heavier.
