A nun is not an equivalent to a priest, but to a monk. There are no female equivalents for priests in the Catholic Church, all the high positions are reserved for men.

Nowhere near. The Vatican reported that there were slightly more than 400,000 Catholic preists worldwide in 2004. There have never been that many nuns. The best estimate is 60,000 in 2006.

As others have pronounced, the Roman Catholic church could often basically settle for somebody in the event that they have been in the closet (and of path, remains celibate - as all RC monks and nuns are predicted to be). different denominations: there are a number of them! the only closest in some the thank you to the RC church is the Episcopal church right here in the U. S.. Congregational church homes additionally settle for gays/lesbians as carry out a little Methodist and Lutheran church homes. i be attentive to there are others ---- those are basically a number of hte greater mainstream ones.

No and they are unrelated ministries. The presbyterate, the diaconate and the episcopate are formal ministries of service, proclamation of the word, charity and celebration. The monastic life is a call to holiness in community. Monks and nuns renounce money, sex and power leaving themselves only with Christ. The number of people called to the monastic life tends to vary with the times. It is the ultimate in counter culture lifestyles. The clergy are often monks, but they are not required to be.

No. In the USA, there are about 71,000 nuns as opposed to about 47,000 priests.
I'd imagine the ratios are pretty similar in most other countries.

I think there are more men in religious vocations then women, especially since a woman's choice is no longer marry or become a nun as it once was in the past.
