In reading the Bible, do Christians believe every story that is written? Or the parts they can relate too in their life?
I am not putting Christians down here..

1 Corinthians chapter 13 which talks about love - this passage has kept me sane during some of the most difficult moments in my life - it sums up what Christianity is all about:
'If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don't love, I've gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love.
Love never gives up
Love cares more for others than for self
Love doesn't want what it doesn't have
Love doesn't strut
Doesn't have a swelled head
Doesn't force itself on others
Isn't always "me first"
Doesn't fly off the handle
Doesn't keep score of the sins of others
Doesn't revel when others grovel
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth
Puts up with anything
Trusts God always
Always looks for the best
Never looks back but keeps going to the end.
Love never dies."
Amen to that!

Hi there. I for one, don't take the entire bible as literal events. For example I don't believe fully in the Adam and Eve story. The Church is also open to the possibility that the old testament is not literal description. Proof of this is the fact the Church is willing to believe in evolution of humans, and not creations as die scribed in the OT ( with condition that the soul was created , that God caused evolution, and that the soul did not evolve.)
You see the OT was written in a time where it would not be easy to tell the Jews: " all the universe was created by an explosion!" Much of the OT as i believe is a method of sending a message, in a way the people to whom it was given would understand. But that doesn't mean that the OT is not to be reflected upon and used in for spiritual teaching and development. In fact the most beautiful part of the Bible in my opinion are the Psalms. They are so beautiful and touching (read 22, 23, 27)...
On the other hand, the NT is a much more accurate source of exact events. As a Catholic I believe that the NT is much more important than the OT, and should be used for reflection and relation to our daily lives. Especially that from it we can take examples from Christs life directly.
Hope this helps.

mithras is a greek legend of a demigod born to a virgin on dec the 25th. He was born in a stable and attended on by wise men and shepards. He was brought gifts of gold frankenscense and mir (not sure how to spell those). over the stable was a giant fireball to signify his arrival on earth. During his life he performed miracles like healing the sick and feeding the hungry. He was martyred to save the human race in the spring and rose a few days later on what would of been a sunday. Mithras's birthday was celebrated by a great feast and the giving of gifts. All this was about 500years previous to the whole jesus thing.....i think zeus should sue. not really an answer but thouht you would like to know

As Christians we should believe every word. Not just parts that we want to believe. I relate to: We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. I know I'm a sinner but I know that through God's grace and love he forgives me of my sin.

I am not Christian; but I strongly relate to the gentle teachings of the young carpenter (Jesus); but I have very little regard for the religion ABOUT jesus practised today.
