It's that awful?
I am a T-pronouncing American.
I can use punctuation as well.

It has become part of our accent, and I do believe that some more educated Americans do enunciate more thoroughly, but it feels a bit weird when people speak in perfect English out in the streets. It's just not slang to enunciate properly.

The movies have actors who are trying to protray specific characters. The USA has many regional accents and immigrants, so it is hard to say that Americans say wanna and Sanna.

I say my t's and it drives me nuts when people don't- my other pet peeves are people who say pacifically (instead of specifically) and expecially. I also recently found out that I am the only person I know who pronounces cabinet correctly- Everyone I know omits the I and makes it cabnit. They sound like idiots but they make fun of me for saying it differently! Yeah I think the more educated people here will say these things correctly!

Do you speak correctly ALL the time? Not being a wise*ss, really just asking.
Could be we're not taking the time (you know us Americans, always rush-rush) OR we're lazy?
Believe me, when I'm in the right setting (work, in-laws, anywhere public) I make a SERIOUS effort, so I don't look lazy, stupid, careless.

We don't know whe're dropping those sounds. My Chinese roommate was asking me why we weren't pronouncing the T's and we were confused at first, then we tried to pronounce the T's and it felt really weird.
Why do English speakers from europe (some of the dialects) not pronounce the R's?

Educated snobs might annunciate their "T's" most educated Americans seem to pronounce "T's" like "D's". English tend to have great variations in accent and pronounciation, it seems odd this would even be a question.. especially in food and drink. Now, puddah liddle buddah on yer bread and geddoudda here.

Ususally Americans don't pronounce their T's in conversation, frankly because WE JUST DON'T CARE. But, if we're saying a speech or somthing like that, then we talk properly.
Duzn 'at make ya wonda 'bout us 'mericans?

I don't know for sure. I think it probably evolved that way simply because if flows more smoothly in the context of a sentence. Just a guess.

Amuricuns ohr danged lazy,
Ah tell ya whut!
It's hard to enunciate with your mouth full of fries cheeseburgers
pastries and with your face buried in your plate of mashed
the Good Lord only knows what-all...
If they are educated in England they enunciate precisely.
