i had a official folder in my hard disk and so for protecting the privacy i had opted the encryption option in the advanced properties of the folder (Windows Xp Sp 2). Then i had to face a system crash after some days and had to format the system drive, the folders were on a seperate drive but after reinstalling windows, i am not able to access those files. it says either the file is open or you dont have the permision to access the file although i log in using the administrator rights. i want my files back... please help!!!!

You can't get them back.

Encrypting them makes them impossible to open with a different user account. Even if you are using the same user id and password, it's still a different account that you're using now.

There are some very high-end companies that can decrypt them like the police, FBI...etc. But nothing that you would have access to.

Sorry for the bad news but you're out of luck.

Next time, if you have to secure those files, you should put them in something like a password protected ZIP file. Something that's not tied to the Windows installation.
