If you are insulin resistant or have problems dealing with the high GI impact foods, yes you do.
It's like any other type of 'diet' if that is what is 'wrong' with you it will work. Some people have a problem with insulin working properly and so cannot have alot of simple carbs or sugars. Other people can eat all they want of them.

Gaining weight is caused by consuming more calories than the body burns on a daily basis. So, you can eat any food and gain weight. It doesn't have to be rice or white flour. Too much food will cause weight gain.

Personally, i enjoy rice and white flour bread, and i cannot find any studies showing that they cause weight gain, however, if you don't burn off extra energy consumed, it will be converted to fat. Rice also has some amazing properties, its mostly simple starch, so your body will easily use it when it needs it, and often it does use much if not all of it.

so you are fine, but i should also mention, too much of anything can be harmful, so try to eat in moderation

Those simple carbohydrates make it easy for your body to convert them into sugars, but bottom line is if you consume more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. It depends on how much you are eating more than what you are eating. If you eat 1 bowl of white rice per day, you will lose weight (and be hungry as hell, and not get any other importnat nutrients)

Are you asking about the Carb diet?

Rice or bread will not make you gain a lot of weight.

Many cultures eat rice and bread as a staple in their diet and are not overweight.

if you eat an over abundance, yes. for myself.....i stay away from anything white....except cauliflower. that includes potatos, rice, white bread.....its the bad carbo hydrates for me, but especially its sugar. these things tend to make me hungrier and then i tend to eat more. i lose more weight if i stay away from such things.

I think it depends on one's metabolism. It's really not the same for everyone.
