It shouldn't be incredibly expensive. Around £40-£50 and 2 minutes to fit. It looks like a spark plug going into the exhaust manifold. Simply screw out and unplug the wire at the end and reverse the procedure to refit.

The lamda sensore is the componet telling your cars computer the temperature of your engine wich will determing the rigth percentage of gas and air also known as a RICH MIX or a POOR MIX. If you lamda is damage you will either be burning alot of fuel or not getting enuff of it, in any case you need to get it fix cose it will cose wear and tear to the engine with the unbalanced mixture.

The Lambda Sensor fits into the exhaust and in basic terms tells the engine management unit how much exhaust gases and air are going thru the exhaust. THe engine management unit (basically the brain of the car) makes continual adjustments to ensure correct running and fuel amounts go to the fuel injectors. i.e. faster you go...you need more fuel....slower you go...less fuel.

They are not cheap items to replace - anywhere from £30 - £40 up to £70 - £80.

Don't try and run your car without one! I have heard of people that clean theirs by removing and brushing with a wire brush to clean off all the carbon deposits....I don't know if this works but...

Better off going to your local scrapyard and finding one from a reasonably good looking car like your own.....about £5.00..they'll even take it off for you

In the U.S. the lambda sensor is called the Oxygen sensor. It is installed inside the exhaust and is emissions related. It can also cause poor gas mileage and poor driveability.
