I think a regular envelope might not be strong enough -- the corners of the magnet might rip the envelope. I'd go with a padded envelope if I were you.

And the previous answerer is also right that the magnet might get stuck in machines or something -- perhaps you ought to check out postal regulations about magnets.

Yes, as long as you don't think it will be broken. Maybe a padded envelope would work best, or one of those rigid cardboard mailers - they're cheap. Also, you must put on the envelope that the package contains magnetic materials as it can affect some equipment.

Yes, envelopes are only for paper or photos.

a magnet 4 x 3" should be packed in a small box.

A magnet in an envelope would get suck in mail sorting machines(arn't they metal),I would think.
