The first choice for Bulimia Nervosa is therapy (cognitive behavioral therapy) and medications (SSRIs). Theoretically Topamax can help with decreasing overeating, but the data isn't very good on this. One caution is that Topamax has been linked to metabolic changes in body electrolytes, and vomiting or laxative use associated with Bulimia can do this too.

Well I'm not sure why they would give you topamax for bulimia. I took it for bipolar disorder. One of the freaky side effects of topamax is that it will make you lose weight. I'm assuming that is why it would be prescribed, so that you could lose weight and still eat. I lost 30lbs on it so please be careful. It can also make you mentally challenged if you're not on the right dose. Wellbutrin is being studied as a weight loss treatment so you might want to check into adding that. other than that, I don't have any information. Sorry but hope that this has helped.

I used Topamax for seizures and it caused me to drop weight like crazy. Why on Earth would you be on it for an eating disorder??? Topamax is a highly dangerous drug in my opinion. It has alot of side effects including but not limited to: weight loss, hair loss, problems with teeth and gums, menstrual problems, breast pain, lack of perspiration, kidney stones, mood changes such as depression and rage, feelings of suicide, irritability, glaucoma and fatigue...

Be careful please...my sister also uses it for migraines and I worry about her well-being....
