Do Muslims really think that the faithful will be rewarded with 72 Virgins? I thought the afterlife was supposed to be about separating ourselves from our material bodies and the wants and needs of materialism and becoming spiritual.

It doesn't seem like much fun for the virgins. I wonder if they have a say in it.

can you give me the proof of your info .
I'm a Muslim and i never heard about those 72 virgins !
in the heaven there is unknown number of virgins beside the pleasure that he will found , and the same for the Muslim women.

no one know how your body going to be , but Muslims believe that Allah give us back our material bodies ,by this way the people of hell will taste the punishment and fire and the people of heaven will taste the pleasure and enjoy in the heaven.

have you ever been in the heaven before ? so , how could you deny somthing you don't know ?

only Allah knows .

Despite studying Islam, the first I heard of this "72 Virgins" issue was from the American media. It is certainly not in the Holy Quran.

Islamic teachings are derived from the Holy Quran and hadiths that are considered valid. When someone tells you something is from Islam, ask for the source.

One thing I've always respected about Islam is that it recognizes that carnality/desire/the need for companionship is an integral part of who we are. The notion that the material is somehow evil or less worthy or inherently anti-spiritual is a false Christian notion and has no place in either Judaism or Islam.

I'm not so much into virgins anymore, though. I prefer a girl who knows what she's doing - and who is into me, rather than assigned to me as a present.

Only 72? From the time of Mo hammed how many have already died for Allah's sake? There will be war in paradise because they will be fighting for 72 virgins only.

You have to tell them something to get them to strap on 30 pounds of explosive. If I forgot how to groom myself, I would probably have trouble finding a willing partner too.

What cracks me up is that the whole martyrdom thing is to prove your devotion, but won't the 72 virgins be an adulterous act?

At least they are virgins only once.

What difference does it make. You won't have a human body and you won't be able to do anything with all the virgins in the world. People are not supposed to be materialistic but its Ok for the religions who always want your money.

That is NOT in the Q'uran. That is a teaching invented by the Wahabi sect of Islam.

well they think so, but they got different stories, have you heard about the handsome boys that serve heaven people?? and quran describe them like gems, I wonder what those boys doing and why heaven men need them?? hmmmm ....

moreover, Allah is very unfair, he does not give 72 men for women in heaven? he should ...maybe he forgot to tell that to muslims, fearing of violence against him.

No it has not been 100% proving as a fact!!!! Because in Islam if you are married a happy marriage in this life and you die for the sake of God. God will bring the husband and wife together. and make them both handsome and beautiful. I never seen evidence from it.
