they are now coming into their own. but i tell you they have always been this beautiful. maybe they are becoming more vain and spending more and more time 'polishing up'

Well, maybe the media (TV, papers, modeling, etc) just makes women today more visible.
Also, it depends on your definition of beautiful. Some areas of Africa are more westernized now.
