How old are you? The age limit to enlist in the US Military is between 17 to 34. If you're a foreign nantional, you need to be a permanent resident/have a green card. You need to talk to the US embassy as ares_1130 posted to ask them how to apply for a green card. Unless if you have special skills some US Companies and Industries need that are in short supply (nursing, Information Technology professional, engineer educated in the west, math and science teacher educators, etc) it will take you awhile. So if you're real serious about immigrating to the US and joining the US military, start applying now before you reach 34 (or whatever the maximum age limit is). If you do have a green card and are able to to join the US military, some MOS's (Military Occupational Specialty-military jobs) that require security clearances will be limited to you as a foreign national like Special Forces, Intelligence, etc.

Also you need to speak very good coherent English when you meet your Drill Sergeants and have a high school diploma. I'm not sure what the educational requirements are for the US Army. I was in the US Marine Corps. But you'll definitely need a high school diploma or a GED and get some college credit hours from an accredited community college to equel it to a High School Diploma. I know some US Marines who were foreigners but they immigrated here to the US when they were kids with their parents. I also use to have two friends at my former aviation job that served in the US Army who were from Ghana and Nigeria, but I haven't seen them in awhile. I think they also immigrated here as kids with their parents.

---------Crpl. Musa, it will not be permissible for other nationalities to join the US forces. It is better you quit the Army and take a job in any US security agency.------------------------

Actually, there are many unnationals serving right here in our U.S military. I think it's a good idea, and helps build integrity through other nations. GO USA!!!

There might be an exclusion to you since you've been in the army of a foreign country, but I doubt it. I know that it's fine that residents of the US join the military, and their citizenship process is usually greatly accelerated. Of course, there are certain jobs in the military that are restricted to citizens, but regular Army jobs should be fine. Try to apply for US residency, and then contact a recruiter. Good luck....We'd love to have you, and your enthusiasm is always greatly appreciated.

well the US army takes everyone. you can join the army here but you have to be a permanent resident. you can apply for it at the american embassy in nigeria i believe. talk to a US army recruiter first to make sure you are eligible for service (except for the permanent resident part) when you get your green card you may inlist in our nations military. after a certain number of years service you can be granted us citizenship. Thank you for wanting to serve our country in a time of war when so many of our own citizens refuse to.
