OK - Yes we do have 24hr licensing but only big cities and towns tend to offer such drinking delights. I believe that outside of London that Bournemouth has the most 24hr licenses granted but I could be wrong !!!

Here in Reading, which is a fairly big town we only have one bar with a 24hr license although some nightclubs stay open until 5am and in big cities you can expect clubs to go on until even earlier.

Generally you will find that pubs are open from 11am until 11pm on weekdays and maybe open until midnight at weekends.

Some village pubs close at around 2.30/3pm during the day and reopen at around 5/6pm.

If you are after pub grub you can expect big chain pubs to serve food pretty much throughout the whole day but generally smaller pubs will serve food from about 12pm - 2pm and then from 6pm to around 8/9pm.

Other pubs, such as my local serve no food at all except bar snacks and are generally drinking holes for the socially inept who are hell bent on destroying what remains of their livers and losing any money they have earn't on impromptu poker games.

Such establishments usually have a stale odour of wet dogs and cigarette smoke and stay open until the last person leaves or gets taken away by either the police or the ambulance service.
