I am American. Age 24. Yet to have a girl friend (!!??!! - True). I want to propose for a 21 yrs girl resides next to our home. They are Indians and have different culture. She likes me and I like her. We spoke about this many times, but could not come to a decision. Also she is bit shy and home attached like many Indians. They have a custom of Arranged Marriage (!!!). Please advise. We still like each other.

Traditionally in indian culture whehn the boy likes a indian girl,the boys parents appraoches the girls parents and propses for marriage.
Make sure its your parents appraoching hers with gold bangles,indian sweet dish, a coconut,and a bettle leave with a red silk cloth napkin on top covering the plate withe stuffs mentioned put in plte to the indian parents.
Don't make a mistake of approaching the girls parenst directly orelse it will backfire.
Make your parents talk to the girls parents in proposing.

You've never had a girlfriend but you're considering marraige? I highly suggest you try and date someone. In America there is rarely arranged marriages so to the average person its a foreign concept...Our society allows divorce without many social awkwardness (just other pentalties). If you date someone a few years before you get married you are trying to secure a future by getting to know someone without many surprises so you want even want to divorce. Unless you dont mind risking your income if she decides to leave you, or you get fed up with someone you dont know...
Anyway, if you CAN I suggest asking her on some dates. If her family/she refuse because of a strict adherence to her indian culture just go with your gut. Its a risky thing to persue, though.

Of course u can, Indian are not alien they are human like us. Yes, their culture are suck! but why dont tell their family that they livin in 21st century...maybe they not that tight, maybe u just never try to explain to them or trying to get along??
