Pig ears are a special treat in our house for the 5 german shepherds we have. My little Maltese used to steal green peppers out of the neighbors garden.. run into the neighbors garage with them and eat them in there where she knew I couldn't get to her under the 8 inch opening they used to leave..
Another year we planted sugar baby watermelons and never got to eat one of them as she ate into each one of them... and talk about this little dog trying to pick peaches so she could eat them.. that was a stitch..
WOW thanks for bringing back the memories

The cured pig's ears you purchase at pet stores are meant to be consumed by your dog, but I have found that they love the taste of them so much that they almost go into wolf mode when they chew or eat them and alot of the time they end up either swallowing a piece that is to big or they can also seriously bite thier lips or tongue in their frenzy.

My puppy love carrots and snap peas. It's good because I don't like snap peas so I can give them to her out of my salads. She loves any and all people food. I can't think of anything strange. I did see dried lambs lungs in the store, refused to buy those. My childhood dog loved carrots. We had a garden in the backyard and my mom yelled at us for "breaking" all the carrots off at the top. Well she had to apologize it was Sparky eating all the carrots.

When I got my dog/puppy she was living on the streets - she lived out grass hoppers the big yellow ones here in florida.
She then moved to chewing down our just growing 5 ft palm tree. She then progessed to eating rocks, and leafs...
But yesterday the dumb people next door threw a super ball over the fence....
Gross but true - In house (I tried to run her out side) she throw up - I said Lady then realized she tossed up the orange super ball... Glad really could have blocked her digestive.
I did see a show where this little dog ate rocks.. they took her to vet, had to have surgery - removed 42 rock/pebbles (really) from tummy.... she got home and ate some again.

Hi,
Actually Carrots are not weird for dogs to eat, They are not strictly Meat eater and do need to have fruits and Veggies in their diets. The fruits to stay away from are Grapes and Raisins, as this is not healthy for your dog or cat to eat.
Water melon Rinds, on the other hand, I would stay away from, but do give him the pulp of the watermelon (without the seeds) and cantaloupe. You can give him an orange wedge, not too much as this could give him too much acid. Most Dogs love Bananas, but not a lot at one time, just a couple of slices. Chewable Vitamin C is good to give your dog as they need Vitamin C the same as we do. Broccoli (cooked or semi cooked), string beans (cooked), spinach (cooked), Beets (cooked), and carrots (cooked or raw), is all good for a dog. Some Dogs like tomatoes and Lettuce, but DO NOT feed Onions, as this could prove to be deadly to sensitive system Dogs and small dogs.
"Grape and raisin poisonings in Dogs"
Recently, there was a letter in the AVMA Journal from Dr. Gwaltney-Brant and others at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center discussing grape and raisin poisoning in dogs. Apparently, grapes and raisins can be toxic to dogs when ingested in large quantities.
The grapes and raisins came from varied sources, including being eaten off the vine directly. The dogs exhibited gastrointestinal signs including vomiting and diarrhea and then signs of kidney failure with an onset of severe kidney signs starting about 24 hours after ingestion of the grapes or raisins. The amount of grapes eaten varied between 9oz. and 2 lbs., which worked out to be between 0.41 and 1.1 oz/kg of body weight. Two dogs died directly from the toxicity, three were euthanized due to poor response to treatment and five dogs lived. Due to the severity of the signs and the potential for death, the veterinarians at the poison control center advocate aggressive treatment for any dogs suggested of ingesting excessive amounts of grapes or raisins, including inducing vomiting, stomach lavage (stomach pumping) and administration of activated charcoal, followed by intravenous fluid therapy for at least 48 hours or as indicated based on the results of blood tests for kidney damage.
I have fed my dogs a few grapes every now and then for years, so I don't think there is a need to panic if a dog eats three or four grapes but if the whole bunch is missing from the table one day, it would be good to think about watching for any signs of a toxic reaction.

Please go to the sites I have in the "source area", there are other things listed that are toxic to dogs.
God Bless

my dogs love eating bananas, and i knew a lab that ate mangoes. but i would excercise caution in feeding your pooch such foods, their systems cannot take a lot of things that we can, such as theobromine found in chocolate and too much vitamin A, found in onions and other foods, will also seriously harm your dog. not too mention too much sugars could make your dog diabetic, and you wouldnt want that, im sure. and dogs like pigs ears because its meat, just think of it as a big whole piece of beef jerky
