Why should anyone live for him, Jesus is not God, he was only a messenger.
Jesus (Joshua), studied the Old Testament and put God's word into the context in which it was written; (that God was for all, and not just for the Jews).
His teaching methods (Teach the Bible from Gods point of view) angered the Temple officials, and has confused many into believing that he was God.
If the message Jesus was teaching was understood by the Majority (the message = the Keys to heaven), then the world would be a very different place - making him and his mother Gods was the only way the Catholic Church could find of totally controlling their people - making them all feel worthless and dirty when compared to the perfection that is their Christ...

For the same reason people don't live for the God of Punbaba. It's quite difficult to live for a being based on what people have told you about him. People can say anything they want about who you should follow, and what you should believe in, but that doesn't mean they're right. Sure, they may believe seriously about Jesus, but that doesn't mean they are right about their belief.
I think people who follow Jesus should do so because Jesus himself actually proved to them personally why they should. But you shouldn't follow something just because other humans (who half of them are misguided) say so. There's been many times when the majority believed in something completely false.
If anything, people should follow Jesus's teaching of being a good person. More specifically, use the teachings as a basis for how to deal with more complicated life situations. Since Jesus himself is probably not going to prove anything to people in person, using his teaching as a basis seems logical to do since his teaching are logical and hold merit. We don;t even know if those teachings are really his, or if people throughout history re-told everything and made it all about a guy names Jesus. Regardless to were the teachings actually came from, they are important ways of life that should be incorporated into your way of life.

I do, but there are many that just don't get it. It is really hard for the human mind to comprehend how terrible hell will really be, so alot don't really care. I am a born again Christian, but at first it took a little convincing for me to get the picture. I am happy that I did. I now am a follower of Jesus and I try and spread the good word of the Gospel to whoever will take the time to listen.

Because religion has turned God into a competitive business. Every religion claims to be God's true religion and says that the others are wrong. The problem is that God has never announced his true religion, it's only the faiths who do and they always pick themselves of course. Christianity says that they have the way to the truth and Islam says that they have it , Judaism claims that they have it, Buddhists say that they have it and so forth. You can't leave it up to the religions as they all want our money in their collection basket. It must come from God and not from a religion, that's the problem.

Because people do not want to stop living the way they are living.
The world is full of toys and materialistic goods. The world is crafty and sin is pleasing to the eyes so why give all that up to follow a God most people don't believe in. Just like the parable of the rich man who wouldn't give up his goods to follow God. Little do we know, if we live for Jesus He will take care of us and bless us beyond our means but that means sacrifice and people wont/don't want to walk that road even if it means saving your soul from Hell because people want their kudos now! today!
I will continue to live for Jesus.

Not everybody believes in Jesus Christ. I am athiest. Some people believe in Allah, Zeus/Hades/Poseidon, etc... and some don't even believe in any at all. Others might just try to be in a religion for some other reason, such as being pressured to do so.

Following Jesus is difficult and often people are encumbered by their daily lives or disheartened by those who have already given up and act like a$$holes.
It is a lot easier for many to reap the rewards of gain, especially if they have a knack for lying, bullying, lazying...
Good luck to you.

We are all sinner and the wages for sin is death.
(Romans 5:12) That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned.
(Romans 6:23) Â For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord.
(John 11:25-26) Jesus said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life; and everyone that is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all.

People need the Spirit of truth; the Holy Spirit. Without Him, they cannot see or understand how to build a relationship with God. That's what we need to pray for.
