Two things will happen: GMAC will contact you and ask you to pay the balance of your car loan, and the police will file charges against you for having an uninsured vehicle. Car insurance is mandatory for all car owners.

How did you manage to cancel the insurance and get that by GMAC?

Assuming that the car was on private property when it was stolen -- not parked on the street -- you'll probably be OK as far as the rules on liability insurance go. However, you have other problems to deal with.

First off, any third-party property damage is up to the registered owner (unless the thief if caught) so you may be billed for that if there was any.

Secondly, you still owe GMAC for the note. Since the security has been destroyed -- and the DMV will report that to them -- you'll have to pay the balance in full immediately. If you had maintained your insurance coverage that wouldn't be too big a deal, the insurance would have paid. But since you took the irresponsible way out and canceled your coverage you now have a very large debt that is due and payable now.

To use the term lightly your up **** creek without a paddle.. Most likely you will be fined for no insurance. Then GMAC will still make you pay for veh. Depending on the year you may be able to use part of the warranty. If for some reason a miracle occurs, and the pd finds out who stole the veh. You can take them to small claims court, but other than that there isn't much you can do. Oh, and the pd may be able to fine you for damage to the concrete wall on the hwy...

Since you cancelled your insurance there is a possibility that GMAC placed their own insurance on the vehicle. If they did, it would cover the damages to the vehicle only.

Any third party damage is not going to be your responsibility. An auto policy will not pay for third party damages if the vehicle was stolen and you will not be liable for them.

Always make sure that you have coverage on a vehicle that is financed.

I'm surprised you managed to keep an unfinanced car uninsured. Often Leinholders require that you keep insurance on a vehicle, or they will attempt to force insurance on you.

Unfortunately, you are basically screwed. It is doubtful that anyone will be caught for stealing your car, and you will still be required to make your payments. Since you weren't driving the vehicle, depending on the state, you will doubtfully incur state penalties.

You can try to pay out of pocket to have it fixed, depending on the extent of damages, but it sounds pretty bad.

Some cities will suit you for damage to walls & bridges. Get detectives to find out who stole it and suit them. in our area we have a crime victims group that will give some money to victims of crimes.Inquire at police station.
