There are three functions of made-up (or artificial languages):
- secret languages with the purpose of excluding the non-initiated from communication (such as military codes)
- special languages with the purpose of making communication between specialists in the same field more efficient (such as the codes of mathematics; chemistry or logics)
- and universal languages with the purpose of creating an international language that does not give anyone the advantage of being their native language (such as Esperanto)

Made-up language is used for the purpose of speaking in code. It can be used to prevent outsiders from understanding conversations, or it can be used by siblings or other individuals with close relationships to symbolize a close bond.

You mean like jive or inner-city, mtv language?
Like when people use Fave instead of favorite?

For some, it makes them feel important, cool or "with it"
But mostly, it is used to confuse people they feel are the enemy.
That's why as soon as something gets popular, they change the word or expression, to muddle the meaning once again.
