sorry strange question i know, my flat mate leaves her phone chargers in an extension lead so they're on ALL the time, we just wondered if they still use electric if you don't have the phone on charge too?

The transformer which reduces voltage to charge the phone is still using current.

anything that is plugged in draws a small amount of charge, best to unplug, as plug its self, could get hot, and that is the electric going into it.

Yes they do, and because so many people leave their chargers in, it a contributing factor to global warming.

Yes, they're called "vampire appliances" and the amounts are not that small. If I were you, I would unplug the thing whenever you see it sitting there with no phone on it.

Yes, even if there's nothing in the socket an the switch is on it will use electricity.
