I have seven dogs and only one is afraid of them. He of course has to be the biggest one. He does all he can in a panic to get under the coffee table. It is funny to watch. However, I do believe he wouldn't be so afraid if my daughter hadn't made such a fuss over him when he was a pup. She noticed his discomfort and always babies him whenever there is a storm. In a way I think he likes them because he knows she will be there giving him sole attention.

Two of my dogs are scared to death during thunderstorms and fireworks. I feel so sorry for them. I asked my vet if the is something that can help calm them and I did get a sedative from her. The first time I gave it too them the dosage was too much so I now just cut the pill in half. I never want to dope a dog up, I just want to comfort them. I do not have any left at this time to tell you the name of the medication, but I'm sure if you asked your vet they can help your dog.

She's shaking because she is scared of the noise Thunder makes. If you ask your veterinarian they do have medications that can help keep her calm when a bad Thunderstorm hits.

Your dog is probably just scared and since it is older, he/she is more aware of the thunder and can sense that it is dangerous. Dogs have better hearing than us and they can see when something is going bad

Its common for dogs to be anxious in electrical storms- some need to be seated- bring him into the laundry if he is an outside dog.... he will feel safer.
just reassure him that he is safe and nothing bad will happen

All animals and birds and fish such "disappear" in bad weather. Perhaps she would be more content in a crate or small den like place in bad weather. My guess is she does not have her "own home".. Dogs are den animals and need to be able to den themselves when the weather is bad or they are tired.

Give it a try.... It makes a difference.

The loud noise and not being familiar with what is causing these sounds, makes many brave dogs turn into shivering pups.

he has gone into shock, like when a dog is being given a bath, my dogs dont shake, but when i was watching cesar millan, he said it isnt that they are cold or anything, they are scared and have gone into shock, thats why they would shiver. i assume that would be the same with the thunderstorm, it scares her and she goes into shock

I SHAKE when there is a thunderstorm too!!!!!!!!!!! She is nervous & sacred probably from the loud noise, they hear much better than we do. They also have a better sense of danger, god gave them I guess.
