Depends on the quality of compression.
For example, at high quality an image could be say 700 Kbytes. Then you can fit about 11 pictures.
At lower quality, say 300 Kbytes, you can have 26 pictures.
Check your manual for details. Most cameras will tell you how many pictures you can still fit at a particular quality mode. However, these days 8 MB is not much. Time to buy a bigger memory card.

You will not be able to take very many photos (only approx. 4-6 at the best resolution, which you should always select).
So, you should buy a memory card with a capacity of at least 256 MB (approx.150 photos)
or 512MB (approx. 300 photos)
Shooting 'movies' needs a large card capacity, so up to 1GB would be a better option, which allows plenty of room for photos and movies.

in a digital camera different settings are available for taking pics
if u choose low resolution u can take more photos
if ur setting is high resolution number of pics will be less
in most digital camera external memory can me used.
so use u can buy a memory card if u want to take more photos
