A raincoat and an umbrella. Germany use to be much colder than the cost line in Europe. This year seems to be much warmer that ever before, but who knows what will be. January and February including Mars was pretty cold last year.

seriously, don't worry TOO much about "fitting in". Boston's such an electic place that many people have their own style! Its really cold in the city, especially if you're going to be walking around outside a lot. Like others said- layers are key. Comfortable, warm shoes... maybe your girlfriend should wear a nice pair of boots. Like I said before, there really isn't a stereotypical style in boston. Scarves, sweaters, nice jackets are seen a lot though. And there's so many great places to go shopping if you want to get something really "boston". I hope you guys have fun and that the weather isn't too harsh!

You haven't said where you're coming from, so we don't know what you're used to.
You can expect cold and rain and possibly snow. So bring clothes that you can wear in layers and that will keep you dry. Make certain you have something to keep your head dry and that you have shoes which will keep your feet dry.

Definitely bring warm winter clothes. The chances are that there will be snow at that time of year. If its warm enough it can rain alot too....
