In an ideal world, Burgundy, with Coq au Vin - a bottle of Chambertin in the dish and two on the table!
But practically speaking, Bordeaux. Much less of a gamble for great quality wine for the $$.

Burgundy. Best sparkling for the dollar, Cremant de Bourgogne. Best Chardonnays in the world. These nice wines are just not as easy to acquire as the wines from Bordeaux.

It's a tough one, and dollar for dollar below around $30 / bottle you'll get a better bordeaux for the money, however to my test the most wonderful of all wines is a farmyardy smelling red burgundy that you can lose yourself in. Yummers.

Yes please. Both Burgundy and Bordeaux are great. I find that while both can be expensive, it is harder to find a reasonably priced Burgundy. If I need Pinot (ie Burgundy) I usually stick with California or Oregon.
