I usually spend the day I get them tightened and the 4 after drinking juice and water and eating pudding. (*gag* I'm sick of braces.) Apple sauce, bananas, and sometimes toast are soft enough and have enough nutrients in them.

I personally love smoothies, soup, and frozen yogurt. You can quote me on that :)

One proven concept in pain management is prophylaxis. If you know you are going to be in pain, take a small dose of OTC medicine BEFORE the anticipated insult. It takes much less drug to stay ahead of pain than to catch up with it. I tell many of my patients to take a Tylenol or Advil before the numbness wears off to minimize post-op soreness.

If I had an orthodontic, root canal, or extraction appointment for myself, I would take a pair of Tylenol right before I left for the appointment, and another pair when I got home. That should nip the pain in the bud. For more severe pain, Advil can be an alternative. Of course, you should consult with your own doctors before taking any medications.

And if you're near a Golden Spoon, I highly recommend it. Fat-free and magically delicious. Yes, there's sugar, but as long as you leave off the toppings, it shouldn't stick to your teeth too long. Jamba Juice and Juice It Up are great, too.

i had braces for three 1/2 years. this may sound weird but for healthy desserts try gerber baby food in peach cobbler or black cerry cobler they are good. here is some other things that you could eat. mash potatoes, try cooking a sweet potatoes(i love them and they are really good for you). applesauce, eggs, cottagecheese, yogurt, try eating chicken noodle soap(campbells) the noodles are soft and the chicken pieces are so small you dont really have to chew it. tomato soup. macaroni. spaghetti with no chunks and use a food processor to chop the noodles up smaller. you can try meal replacement drinks. carnations powder drink flavros in the breakfast cereal ilse i think they come in chocolate ,strawberry, and vanilla. meat is just kind hard to eat . i feel your pain ive been there but its all worth it . good luck. sorry you feel bad.
