i have just been pulled over by the police in the uk for being on a private road on a motor cross bike for no insurance how do i stand when i 1st moved in to this area we had to get written permission to use the roads as they was not owned or maintained by any highways authoritys

i pulled off from my house which is on a private road then pulled on to the next private road then got pulled over when i moved here i had to get written permission to use the roads and in the local paper recently even they say the roads are private and depending on what copper pulls you over they admit there is not much they can do but you do get some snotty ones

I would think that as long as you didn't drive on a public roadway, as far as the police know, you can't be ticketed for no insurance in any country.
Take this to court and I 'm certain that at the very least your fine will be reduced.

Insurance requirements apply on puplic roads and public access ways. A puplic access way is any road or other private property that the public has unrestricted access to. Examples are private roads without barricaides or bollards and private car parks.

Consult with a solicitor, but most likely you're nicked.

I suggest you should find out all about the law first before using any vehicle specially in foreign coutries. Not all traffic laws are universal. Know the do's and don'ts of the country you are traveling to.
