3.0 liter is the engine size. V6 is the number of shafts that the engine has (6). This is a medium sized V6. FI means "Fuel Injection" and DOHC mean "Dual OverHead Cams" which means you have two cams sitting superior to the shafts which allows for greater horse power. 24 valves means you have 24 valves for the 6 pistons, or 4 valves per piston which is for how the engine "fires", also a good ratio for horsepower/torque.
This is a medium sized engine that can be good on gas if you stay out of the gas pedal and drive it normally. If you want some power, it can deliver it too so you don't have to worry about pulling out into traffic.
Hope this helps

3.0 liter displacement which means that is how much volume there is in the 6 pistons when they are in the down position or devied 3.0 by six to get volume /piston V6 means the pistons are arranged in a "V" pattern,,,3 on each side of the block. there are also V2 ,,V4,,,V6,,V8 V10 ( Dodge Viper) V12 and more in industrial industrial engines.
FI means it is fuel injected that means the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber when the piston reached TDC or slightly before,,, (TDC is top dead center ) the fuel is then ignited by the spark plug. DOHC means double (or dual) OH,,overhead,,over head of the piston cylinder block,,,cams. the cams are shafts that have lobes ,,,BUMPS ,,,on them to open the valves. 24 V means there are 24 valves in the engine 4 /piston ,,or 6 times 4 =24 2 intake and 2 exhaust.

Ok here it is 3.0 liter (engine size) electronic fuel injection dual overhead camshafts 24 valves. That is four valves per cyl. Also this Maxima is very complicated and expensive to repair. And that this chain driven camshaft engine lasts a long time. Once the chains make noise open your wallet wide.
