If you are in the army and you get deployed to iraq or afghanistan, and you are in a career that has nothing to do with combat, will they still give you a gun or are you a sitting duck. I dont mind being in a combat zone, but I better be able to kill someone if I need to.

The only thing I might have a problem with is killing everyone I see that isn't american military. But hopefully they won't care, it would be much easier that way. I think the military should just become a giant sweeper team.

You will be issued a weapon, don't fret about it. Stay safe and thanks for your service, take care.

I was an army medic, we were trained to shoot and it was part of the routine to go out on the firing range periodically.

I never saw combat, but I was certainly trained to use a gun and if you go into the medical field there is a good chance that if you are deployed, you will end up in a hospital.

I don't think it is the plan of the Army to make anyone into a sitting duck.

I noticed in your other questions, that you seriously considering the military and I commend you. My son is in the Navy, loves it, he is stationed state side and loves it. His time off of for the holiday (this is not part of his 30 day leave) was noon on Friday until his regular time on Wednesday (today) then he is out from noon on Friday again until next Wednesday. For Thanksgiving, he was out from Tuesday until Monday.

He says the food is good, and he makes enough to live, as far as I am concerned hemakes more then enough, he keeps getting tattoos.

He also got almost a years worth of college credit for his navy training, without spending a penny.

Consider all of your options.

Every troop deploys with a weapon and ammo.

Do me a favor before you go: read the Geneva Convention and then see a psychiatrist. War is not a free for all. There are rules of engagement. If you don't follow them, you'll spend the rest of your life in Levenworth.

By all means you will get a personal weapon ,either a 9mm or a m-16a2 or both. You will quickly learn that in an environment like those there are FEW people that "HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH COMBAT" -Jessica Lynch was a clerk that kept POL records(armyspeak for GAS STATION ATTENDENT) and now she is Hero and a household name-go figure

Soldiers in combat zones are armed . Being without your weapon will get you in serious trouble .

If you are in the Army you know how to shoot, that's a requirement. That's why they have training
