My dog has had the twitches in her back legs only for the last couple of nights after she has been asleep for a couple of hours. it does not seem to be painful just annoying to her and me as she cannot sleep and keeps getting up and repositioning herself? Could it of just been constipation as i did not see her go a couple of days ago and she took a while doing a poo today. I tried to take her outside in the night when she was twitching but she did not want to go out. She's just coming off heat. She is 6 yrs old and very healthy normally.

Hi there If this happens frequently you may be very stressed or depressed. Try to avoid caffeine etc in the evening. I think you have answered the reason for this happening yourself in saying that you have been goiung through a lot of crap recently. If this broken sleep continues then see you doctor and explain your life problems at present. If it's an isolated occurance then don't worry. Try and get through the day and think about what happened yestrerday which may have caused this like a change in your diet or anything which distressed you especially yesterday. Plenty of fresh air and staying away from a warm environment will help you today. Try to avoid energy drinks as you will 'crash down' at a later time when the hit wears off. 'Hope this helps

I know that on occasion my Chow Blitz has leg twitches when he is asleep and sometimes give little whimpers. although there are probably a number of reasons in my case the Vet. said that just like people dogs seem to have dreams and this was probably a symptom of this and not to worry
Hope this helps

After a few hours the dog is probably in the REM stage of sleep. I know that in humans this stage of sleep can encourage twitching , talking , dreaming and to a serious extent, walking. Waking up follows the REM stage.

I don't think your dog's two problems are related. Twitches are normally part of the canine dream cycle. If your dog seems "out of it" mentally, or has blood in the mouth from biting their tongue, seek vet. help. This can be a seizure or nervous disorder. Good Luck!

Most dogs twitch, whimper, kick, make motions in their legs like their running and bark. She's probably just dreaming, it's perfectly normal. If you want to calm her or wake her up, just pet her and talk to her gently. If you are still concerned, then call your vet, and ask them what they think it is.

She might be having a puppy dream, I have 2 labs (8 and 10 1/2) and they will whimper and the paws will move. They are both happy and healthy.

He is dreaming. Dogs have dreams the same as humans. Well maybe not the same kind of dreams of course but they do dream. It's always been kind of a mystery as what dogs dream of. Know one really knowa for sure,
