Johnny Cee gave a good answer:
John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Throughout history, there have been those who have chose to give up their live so that another could live. Many have chose to die rather then to deny the LORD and as a result, others have see the LOVE that God had for us when Jesus died for our sin.
In reality, for those of us who know without a doubt that we have eternal life, we are not dying anyway. We are simply going HOME...but GOD wants us to live for HIM as long as HE has placed us here so that others may be able to see Jesus in us.
For me to live is Christ....for me to die is gain.

It all depends on what you are dying for that person for. If you die in order to protect them, like pushing them out of the way and getting hit by a train, no that is not a sin. Jesus said that the greatest love was one that you would give your life for. But if you were broken up with a girlfriend and found out she was dating someone else and went to her house and shot her and then yourself, yes, that would be a sin because it is done in jealousy not love.

only if you commit suicide can it truly be a sin, and if u truly believe that God will save you from taht sin you will still go to heaven, but why would Jesus die for us if not to teach us a lesson, the lesson being that there is no greater love then someone laying down their life for someone else.

No, it's not a sin.
Soldiers in combat have been known to dive on top of live grenades in order to protect their brothers in arms from harm -- even knowing that they themselves would probably die as a result.
They don't do this because they want to die, or because they're trying to commit themselves. They do it because they're trying to save their brothers.
It's not a sin at all.

I would say No. if I Jumped in front of a speeding car to save anyone I loved I hope God would see that I am NOT a bad person and have mercy on my soul. at least that's what I hope.
Suicide i have thought about that a lot. I'm not sure about that. maybe i don't know. should I try and do it to find out for sure?

In tragic circumstances we may die in trying to save someone we love. In case of God I wonder if He didn't make a mistake ?

no, unless we committed suicide, because that never helps anyone. The greatest love we can show to a friend is to die for them, its the greatest sacrifice. Did the martyrs sin when they died for Jesus?

That would be a very Noble gesture on your part. Not a sin because you didnt waste what God gave you. You sacrificed yourself to save another one of his children.
