Well that saying doesn't go for everything...... i mean if you see a poor person with nothing to eat...... what good is your thought going to do for that guy? Will it fill his stomach? NO!!!
If you wanna be a tight *** then hey feel free but don't expect people to help you out if u find yourself in a financial situation either.

Because the money oftentimes shows that the thought was really there and not just empty words. But why waste money? Do something nice like mow a lawn or wash a car.

You are right. So next Christmas, get out some popsicle sticks and glue and make pot holders for everyone. hehe And remember, never give anyone a Chia pet. The thought that come across is that you don't know that person and that you just wanted to buy something fast at the drug store for them.

I am sure Jesus in the Garden "thought about" the intentions of the Cross HE knew HE was going to carry. I'm so glad HE actually DID it for me.

"It is the thought that counts".
It is an expression only. And it is used to show our appreciation for something given to us, regardless of its value, looks , size etc...
It is no to be taken literally.
We demonstrate our gratitude to the other person, and this makes her/him feel good about their gift.

because you took the time to purchase a gift rather than not get anything.you can't give a thought. how would you feel if someone gave you a thought , uh , i thought you would get the point.

Well that's one way to ratiionalize apathy. It's one thing to want to help but financially be unable to, it's another to mock someone elses struggles and ignore their need.
