Russian Orthodox similar to Greek Orthodox.
Rome was divided into two empires: West and East. The Roman Catholic Church is from the West. The Greek Orthodox and later the Russian Orthodox are from the East. They split from the Roman Catholic Church when the Roman Empire split.
Russian Orthodox Church does not believe in the pope as God's representative on earth.

In 1054AD the Church split. In the west, the Roman Catholic church remained. In the East, the Orthodox churches remained. One of the Orthodox churches is the Russian Orthodox church.
When someone says "catholic" roman is automatically read in. She was distinguishing that she is a member of the Russian Orthodox Church (most likely) and not a member of the Roman Catholic church.
I suggest wikipedia, as they will have information on the Russian Orthodox church.

AS in the Russian or Greek Orthodox church, they have smellies and things that are glittery gold. My late Mum was Greek Orthodox, it seems to me to be a "kinder" religion than Catholicism, and the singing! Remember the deep bass voices of the priests? The stove pipe hats seem to be a better ethic than the cardinal hats also!

People were first called Christian in Antioch long before the Catholic church was formed. The Eastern Orthodox church and the Catholic church and Protestantism are all parts of what today has become a false religious system that true believers are being called out of. Just as Martin Luther left the Catholic church because he realized it was not the true faith we are commanded today to come out of false religion. Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
There is tribulation coming, and is already upon the world and upon false religious systems and we are to prepare ourselves by separating ourselves from both because the Lord Jesus Christ is coming soon.
Ephesians 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
