First, you need to make sure you actually go to class. Then, you need to make sure to actually study.

Assuming you're already doing that, I'd recommend taking some easy classes! Band geeks are easy to make fun of, but it's an automatic "A" every semester. Sign-up for some dance class, or basket weaving... whatever!

When all else fails, there's always sleeping with the teacher! :-)

GPA is a calculation of your grade point average. The overall system gives a numeric grade in place of the traditional "A", "B", "C", "D", "F" system. In this case, an "A" is worth 4 points, a B=3 points, a "C"=2 points, a "D"=1 point and an "F"=0 points. Each grading period you take all of the grades using this format and add them together with the previous grades. Then you divide by the number of grades issued and you get the present GPA. Here is an example.

Present GPA 2.5 for 16 grades.
Lets say that this grading period you get B, C,C,C
You assign number grades so you get 3+2+2+2 or 9 points.

To find your new GPA you first have to find the total number of points for the previous GPA which you do by multiplying the 2.5 by 16 previous grades or (2.5 x 16) = 40. Now add the points for this grade period (9) and you get (40 + 9 = 49). You divide this by the total number of grades offered (16 + 4) or 20, and your new GPA is now 2.45 (49/20).

OK, now you know how to figure the GPA and what it represents. The ONLY way to raise a GPA is to improve your grades. So if you can raise the C's in the above example to B's, that will change the calculation to 3+3+3+3=12 + 40 = 52 / 20 = 2.6. Good luck... the end result is worth the extra effort.

The best way to increase your GPA is to study and get good grades. You really need to be consistent. Getting high grades consistently will help to "drown out" any not so good ones you may have received.
